Enthalpy counter-flow heat exchangers

High-efficiency enthalpy plate heat exchangers by ZERN ENGINEERING (EC/ECD series) are designed for applications requiring both temperature and humidity recovery. Polymer plates with a microporous, vapor-permeable membrane selectively pass water vapor while keeping air streams completely separated - delivering energy saving, stable indoor RH, and low pressure drop for residential and commercial units.

Principle of operations
Two sealed airstreams move in opposite directions through alternating channels. As warm, humid exhaust passes the cooler, drier supply, a vapor-permeable membrane transfers heat and moisture - without air mixing - reducing the load on humidification/dehumidification, especially in winter and dry climates.
Core material
Polymer plates laminated with a microporous membrane that allows moisture diffusion while providing a robust barrier to particles and microorganisms. The rigid, lightweight core resists mold, corrosion, and degradation and is washable for long service life.
Casing materials
  • Polystyrene (HIPS) - lightweight, insulated; ideal for compact residential units.
  • Aluzinc steel - economical and corrosion-resistant for long-lasting performance.
  • Aluminum - lightweight, corrosion-resistant; good for humid sites.
  • Epoxy-coated - for chemically active or coastal areas.
  • Stainless steel (AISI 304/316) - for aggressive/hygienic sites.

  • Dimensions A and B are fixed. Dimension C is the width of the heat exchanger and can be varied.
  • Each heat exchanger model can be manufactured with a depth (dimension C) ranging from 100 mm to 600 mm per unit.
  • Heat exchangers with a width of 600 mm and above are supplied as two or more units.
